GunLoon Framing
Joe Huffman asks a typically obtuse question:
Can you demonstrate one time or place, throughout all history, where the average person was made safer by restricting access to handheld weapons?
The beauty of this question is that no matter how it is answered, Joe can always dispute the answer by claiming the ‘average’ person was not really ‘average.’ The same applies to ’safer.’
Further, Joe warns us not to look at a US-UK comparison because it “fails in a big way. Look at before and after gun control was introduced in the U.K.” Of course, Joe is not a student of history; if he were, he might have known there have been 4 or 5 major pieces of gun control in the UK going back over a century. Of course, Joe omits the fact that gun-related homicide rates in the UK are about 1/25 of what they are here in the US.

Yawn. More worthless and completely irrelevent numbers that are the proverbial apples to oranges, but you’ve demonstrated that you can’t be trusted to dig any deeper than what you want those numbers to see, therefore manipulation of those to your favor doesn’t bother you.

Point is simple. Joe Huffman lied. The evidence is there.

What did he lie about? The UK was already at least 1/25th as homicidal as the US before they had any gun control laws at all.
The UK has a low homicide rate despite it’s gun control laws, not because of them. It’s not like the place was overrun with gun violence before gun control came to town.

The fact is UK homicides went down, not up as Huffman says. Plus, one has to understand there have been at least four major gun control laws (and a number of smaller ones) enacted in the UK over the past 100+ years. Pretending one law turned the British Isles into an abattoir is extremely dishonest.
