Actually, Nevada had a murder rate of 8.7 per 100,000 people in 2006, so I’m not sure where the 26 or 17.3 comes from. Are you including suicides as well? If so, Japan, with it’s much higher suicide rate and no firearms, shows that suicidal people don’t need guns to kill themselves. The murder rate in virtually every state has gone down, Democrat or Republican, with or without strict gun controls. Those with new carry permit laws have just gone down a bit more than those without. At the least, it shows that carry permits don’t hurt, and may have saved lives.

Actually, the firearms death rate is only 17.3 of 100K residents, 80% lower than the gun free state of DC.

A highly gun restrictive state is number one, a very liberal state (Alaska) takes second place.

Texas and Florida, notoriously gun loving states according to the Brady campaign, are halfway towards the bottom, less than two points over the highly restrictive California.

Clearly, guns are not the issue

Too bad, when pressed for the CDC data on Nevada…it turns out that article was full of shit and the gun death rate in NV isn’t anywhere near 26 per 100K.
