A Gun Lobbyist’s Lament

A person who works at Waples Mill (NRA HQ) tells me many of the folks who do rountine admin and grunt work at the NRA are unsalaried, while the bigwigs pull down six figure salaries.

  1. There is much truth to what Richard Feldman says.

But anti-gunowner advocates should beware embracing Feldman just because he is critical of the NRA. Feldman remains a stauch opponenent of anti-gunowner advocates and well knows their deceit and extremist goals.

Like me, Feldman believes that the NRA’s refusal to offer compromise make them look bad (although it helps make them rich and powerful) and that offering real compromise (which they inevitably reject) actually helps expose the extremism and intransigence of anti-gunowner advocates.

I recently finished his book, Ricochet: Confessions of a Gun Lobbyist.

And among other things, it blows away a favorite lie of anti-gunowner advocates: That the NRA represents the “gun industry.” Feldman was director of the gun industry lobbying group, which really did seek moderation and compromise. That group and its efforts were opposed by the NRA.

  2. JayF: I hardly embrace Feldman; I think he’s a GunLoon.
    ….
But he does point out the fact the NRA is about money. It could care less about GunLoons other than to ensure the checks keep coming.

  3. The NRA is indeed too much about money.

But if you wish to quote Feldman in support of that, I hope that you wind up ecouraging others to read his book, which in bashing the NRA also exposes may of the oft-heard deceits of anti-gunowner advocates — such as the ourrageous deception of the “fingerprint-resistant” gun.
